There have been many historic events in the world, religious, political, scientific, and industrial. The advent of the Islamic religion as the last Divine religion for the whole world has been a meta-/ hyper-religious revolution in the world. The Islamic religion and its Divine text, the Holy Quran, have sketched an eternal outline for the felicity of mankind. The Islamic religion is never limited to the Arab or Muslim communities, as there are many, many verses in the Holy Quran that address mankind.
Politically, the 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran, led by the late Ayatollah Khomeini, left a significant impact on the world. It has proved, first and foremost, that the Islamic perspective can make and lead a political revolution to the extent that not only Muslim but also non-Muslim communities can learn from its main tenets. The Islamic Revolution of Iran received its impetus from the Ashura movement of Imam al-Husayn (61 AH/ 680).
Besides the political aspect, it has invited everybody to view Islam not only as a religion that invites the pious to think about the divinities, but it has given rise to viewing Islam as a liberating force to free people and nations from slavery. Scientifically, Iran that used to be under the influence of Western superpowers has come up with its own great scientific achievements. The rate of university graduates in the nation has been so high that many Iranian graduates find high academic positions in other nations. A country that was able to make only kites for children is now able to produce missiles, all without any help from abroad. This great shift and upsurge have been achieved due to the Islamic spirit in the nation. Industrially and technologically, Iran has made such great achievements that it has come up with the technologies of constructing oil refineries. These achievements have been made all against the sanctions imposed on the Iranian nation. All in all, it is the spirit of the Islamic religion that has given such a rise to the position of Iran to such a high position. The above lines never mean to ignore the defects and shortcomings that must be removed or corrected. Clearly, any nation must do its best to make progress, yet making progress must propel not only the Iranian nation but all Muslims and mankind to search for the essentially propelling force that has led to such achievements. In retrospect, Muslim nations in the early and medieval Islamic history made much progress. The big motif was those Muslims' staunch belief in the liberating force of purely Islamic tenets. Once they lost this view and adopted the attitude to be submissive to tyrants and oftentimes ignorant rulers, they distanced themselves from their bygone glories and golden days. To recapitulate, it is the spirit of the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt, as manifested in the discourses of the Infallibles, that has acted as a guiding torch for everybody, both Muslims and non-Muslims.
