Muhammad-Reza Fakhr-Rohani
Abstract:   (65 Views)
Malik b. al-Harith al-Ashtar al-Nakhai was a loyal companion of the first Infallible Imam Ali. An embodiment of loyalty, faithfulness, and reliance on Allah, Malik was such a praiseworthy figure that after the news of his assassination and martyrdom by the agents of Muawiyah reached Imam Ali, he wept profusely and remarked thus: "He was to me as I were to the Prophet Muhammad."
Supposing that Malik received no other mark of appreciation other than this one, it was indeed enough for him. To be so beloved before and in the eyes of Imam Ali means that he was a well-accomplished figure.
The reasons of Malik's uniqueness must be sought not only in his religiosity but in his perceptiveness and insightfulness not to forsake his leader, i.e., Imam Ali in the time of need. This trait can be traced back to his moral education as well as his personal determination to devote whatever in his hands to Imam Ali. In return, his true and practical devotion raised his to such a lofty status. Malik was indeed a martyr, although not killed in a fierce military battle.    Rereading the lives of such great figures brings everybody impactful lessons, both now and always. May we continue his path.
