‘Iṣmah: Meaning and Implications
Mohammad Biabani
Abstract:   (91 Views)
The concept of characteristics, although it may suggest the exclusivity and restriction of certain attributes to prophets while denying them to others, is not our intended meaning here. Rather, we refer to those characteristics that, without doubt, are possessed by divine messengers, but their negation for others is not implied. One of the characteristics that all prophets share is infallibility ʿIṣmah (عصمت). For this reason, we include it among the characteristics of prophets, even if others may also possess it.

Keywords: ʿIsmah (infallibility), Piety (taqwā)
