Today, one of the topics of interest in academic circles is the views of Mirza Mahdi Isfahani. Sometimes, his anti-philosophical stance has been interpreted as being anti-rational. This article demonstrates that he acknowledged the validity of intellect and, in the realm of epistemology (not substantive), considered everyone, including philosophers, susceptible to error. According to him, in order to ensure the religious validity of rational findings, one must refer to the sources of revelation. In a rational system, Mirza Isfahani considered certainty and conviction as valid, but at the same time, he deemed it necessary for a researcher to refer to religious sources to validate their findings in understanding religious truths. He regarded self-evident rational findings as authoritative and governing over other mental perceptions.
